Privacy notice

Last updated: 6 October 2026

This website is run by Karen and Simon, who write it as a hobby to share their campervan travels. This notice explains what personal information the website collects, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it to a minimum, and we never sell it or use it for advertising.

If you have any questions, or want to use any of your rights below, email us at hello@ramonaontheroad.co.uk.

If you just read the website

You can read everything without an account, and we don't use any tracking, analytics or advertising cookies.

Like every website, the company that hosts it (Fasthosts, in the UK) keeps short-term technical logs of visits, such as your IP address and which pages were loaded, to keep the website running and secure.

If you create an account

An account lets you comment on stories and choose to get our newsletter. When you create one, we keep:

  • Your name, which is shown next to anything you comment.
  • Your email address, which you sign in with. It's never shown to anyone else.
  • Your password, which is handled by Google's Firebase sign-in service. We can never see it.
  • Your newsletter choice, and the dates you joined and subscribed.

We use these to run your account. That's the service you've asked for. You need to be 13 or over to create an account.

Comments

Comments are public: anyone visiting the website can read them, along with your name and the date. We may remove comments that are rude, unkind, off-topic or advertising. You can delete your own comments at any time.

The newsletter

We only send the newsletter if you've ticked the box asking for it and confirmed your email address. That's your consent, and you can take it back whenever you like: untick the newsletter in your account, or use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter. If we use a mailing service to send it, we share only your name and email address with them, just to send it.

Who looks after your information

  • Google Firebase stores the website's content, accounts and comments, and handles signing in. Google may process this outside the UK, under the safeguards UK data protection law requires.
  • Fasthosts hosts the website in the UK.

Karen and Simon, and Josh, who builds and maintains the website for them, can see the list of accounts and newsletter subscribers. Nobody else can.

Things that load from other websites

Some parts of the website load from other companies, which then receive your IP address like any website you visit:

  • Google Fonts, for the website's lettering.
  • OpenStreetMap, for our maps.
  • YouTube, when a story includes a YouTube video. We use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, so YouTube shouldn't set cookies until you play the video.

What's saved in your browser

A few things are saved in your own browser so the website works the way you've chosen. They stay on your device and we can't see them:

  • whether you're signed in
  • your accessibility settings, such as text size and contrast
  • trips you add to the Schengen calculator
  • your best score in our campervan game

Clearing your browser's data for this website removes them.

How long we keep it

We keep your account until you delete it. Deleting your account (from Your account, using the Sign in button at the top of the website) removes your account details, newsletter subscription and comments straight away. If you'd rather, email us and we'll do it for you.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you can ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. You can change your name and newsletter choice, or delete your account, yourself at any time. For anything else, email us and we'll reply within a month.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this notice

If we change how we use your information, we'll update this notice and the date at the top. If a change affects your account or the newsletter, we'll tell you by email.
